Members of the Aransas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse participated in a Saftey Fair and Bike Rodeo at Little Bay Elementary School in Rockport on Friday May 3, 2002 Other agencies represented at the Safety Fair where Rockport Police Department, Fulton Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Aransas County EMS.
The Aransas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse
is made up of a group of non-sworn civilian volunteers who support the sheriff's office by performing duties consisting of mounted patrols, parade duties, search and rescue, escorts, and supervising inmate trustees in clean up duties. Mounted Posse members have also volunteered to visit area schools where they teach students about horsemanship, safety topics and crime prevention. The members of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse also assist the Sheriff's Office by rounding up stray live stock. The Sheriff's Mounted Posse is a non-profit organization with a Director that is appointed by the County Sheriff. The other officers leading the posse are elected by the membership. The other officer positions within the mounted posse consist of the Seretary, the Tresurer, and the Parade Marshall.
