The Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) completes all follow-up investigations on reports initiated and generated by the Sheriff's Patrol Division.  C.I.D. also provides investigative assistance to the uniform deputy sheriffs on a twenty-four hour basis by having "on call" investigators equipped and capable of an immediate on-scene response if requested.

C.I.D. is currently comprised of five Investigators (4 CID and 1 Narcotics).

C.I.D. Investigators are trained in a variety of areas and are capable of conducting investigations that encompass a wide array of criminal activity.  After a thorough investigation and casework, the Sheriff's Investigators are responsible for bringing closure all open cases, and handle any necessary trial preparation.

Additionally, the Sheriff's Investigators are responsible for processing and maintaining all evidence that is recovered from a crime scene or criminal investigation.  C.I.D. has the responsibility of evidence storage, maintaining the "chain of custody", and finally the presentation of the evidence in court.

The Criminal Investigations Division can be a proactive element of the Sheriff's Office by meeting routinely to discuss current trends and pending cases.  Crime trends are analyzed to detect similar methods of operation and establish predictions on where and when similar crimes may occur.  Sheriff's Investigators interact with members of the community and other local law enforcement agencies to discuss on-going crime and develop creative avenues to resolve reoccurring problems.
